In a bid to open up employment opportunities for under-graduate, graduate as well as postgraduate students of Kashmir, Global Talent Track is launching the Talent Valley Project. Almost 250 students from the valley, shortlisted after a test conducted by GTT, will come to Pune to be trained by experts from the IT and ITES sectors.
Dr Uma Ganesh, CEO, GTT said, “There is a huge talent pool in Jammu and Kashmir but it is unused owing to lack of opportunities. We aim to bring students to Pune and expose them to new trends in technology like e-learning. Also, this programme will enable students to interact with experts from industries, the best way to prepare them for the industry.”
She added that Indian IT and ITES sectors are expected to employ about 7.5 million directly by 2022. “Hence there is a need to prepare now. A few companies like Zensar and Infosys have already been roped in. These students from J&K have potential and competency. The only thing they lack is opportunity and we will try to provide them with just that,” she added.
The project will have financial support from the IT department, J&K . The students will be trained in Kashmir and in Pune. “As part of the first phase, we will train around 250 students. Our mission within the next five years is to train 50,000 young Kashmiris. Students will get a peek into how inventory management works,” said Ganesh Natarajan, CEO and vice chairman, Zensar, part of the initiative.
GTT will start similar projects in Orissa, Bihar, Meghalaya and Nagaland soon. Among others present at the launch were Dr N A Shah and Dr S Mufeed Ahmad from the University of Kashmir, Suvopriya Mukherjee, general manager alliances, GTT and Major Ashok Kaul.

PUNE: The Global Talent Track (GTT), a city-based employable skills assessment and training company, has collaborated with the University of Kashmir to launch the Talent Valley' project in order to create employability among 200 youth from the Valley.
A six months career oriented programme in information technology (IT) and information technology enabled service (ITeS) sectors has been designed for these candidates, who will be trained in Kashmir as well as in Pune.
GTT is in talks with 20 major companies across the country, including Zensar, Infosys, IBM among others, for placements. An aptitude test was conducted at the University of Kashmir through which 200 students were selected.
Announcing the initiative on Tuesday, Uma Ganesh, chief executive officer, GTT said, "This initiative was conceptualized and implemented in partnership with the University of Kashmir and will immensely help the youth of Kashmir in realizing their dreams of being part of the global knowledge economy. The GTT's unique blend of technology enabled learning and interaction with the industry would add immense value to this initiative."
The GTT will provide technical training and facilitate industry projects to the students in Pune along with internship and placement assistance. Ganesh said, "The Indian IT and ITeS industry will record about US $220 billion in exports and US $60 billion domestically by 2011 and it is expected to employ about 7.5 million people by 2022. The Talent Valley project equips the students to be part of this great opportunity."
While half of the selected students will study in Kashmir, the rest will study in Pune for two months, after which the students will swap their training places. Under the project, the GTT has also introduced virtual classrooms so that the students in both Pune and Kashmir, can share lessons simultaneously. |
